A Menorah that was placed inside the Leif Ericson Park & Square in the bay ridge section of Brooklyn has been vandalized and the suspects stole a Happy Hanukkah sign that was above the menorah, NYPD Officials told JP.
It was early Thursday morning when Rabbi Tzvi Stroh, from Chabad of bay ridge discovered that the menorah that was placed inside of the park was broken and a sign above that which read “Happy Hanukkah” was stolen, Rabbi Stroh reported the vandalism to police Thursday evening, police sources said.
The Rabbi had permit to place the Menorah inside the park, Officials said.
The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident as a hate crime the officials said.
In a Email Sent to JP Rabbi Stroh said, First I would like to thank the police for their quick response and professional handling of the incident as well as their encouragement to get the menorah back up as soon add possible.
“As in the time of the original miracle of Chanukah there are those who would like to stop the light of the menorah from burning, our response is that the lights of the menorah did not stop burning and the menorah itself was back up that same night. We also have a menorah parade planned for Sunday night, the last night of Chanukah, to spread the light of the menorah even further, Rabbi Stroh added.
Earlier this week police said that the Menorah in Carl Schertz Park, in the Upper East Side of Manhattan was vandalized twice, and the hate crimes task force is investigation it, but detectives don't believe that this incidents are connected, police sources added
